  1. Remove the dimmer and ignition switch mounting stud.
  2. Remove the ignition switch from the ignition switch actuator.
  3. Remove the wire harness strap, if equipped.
  4. Detach the necessary electrical connectors.
To install:
  1. Attach the electrical connectors.
  2. Move the ignition switch slider to the extreme right position, then move it one detent to the left to the OFF-LOCK position.

NOTE
The ignition switch must be installed with the switch in the OFF-LOCK position. A new ignition switch will be pinned in the OFF-LOCK position. Remove the plastic pin after the switch is installed on the column. Failure to do so may cause switch damage.

  1. Install the ignition switch with the mounting stud. Tighten the stud to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
  2. Install the dimmer switch and install the ground wire to the stud. Install the nut and screw finger-tight.
  3. Adjust the dimmer switch as follows:
    1. Place a 3 / 32 in. drill bit in the hole on the switch to limit travel.
    2. Position the switch on the column and push against the dimmer switch rod to remove all lash.
    3. Remove the drill bit and tighten the nut and screw to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
  4. Raise the column into position and secure.

  1. Enable the SIR system as follows:
    1. Connect the yellow 2-way connector at the base of the steering column and install the CPA.
    2. Install the left lower sound insulator.
    3. Install the SIR fuse.
    4. Connect the negative battery cable.
    5. Turn the ignition switch to RUN . Verify that the "INFLATABLE RESTRAINT" indicator light flashes 7-9 times and then remains OFF. If the light does not function as specified, there is a fault in the SIR system.
Eldorado and Seville-Early Models
  1. Disable the SIR system as follows:
    1. Turn the ignition switch OFF .
    2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    3. Remove SIR fuse No. 19 from the fuse panel.
    4. Remove the left side sound insulator.
    5. Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and detach the yellow 2-way connector at the base of the steering column.
  2. Remove the 2 screws and the center trim plate.
  3. Remove the 5 screws and the knee bolster.
  4. Remove the 4 screws and the instrument panel steering column reinforcement plate.
  5. Remove the ignition switch wiring protector and the ignition switch retaining screws.
  6. Detach the ignition and turn signal switch column harness connectors from the instrument panel harness.
  7. Detach the turn signal switch connector from the column harness. Remove the ignition switch.
To install:
  1. Move the ignition switch slider to the extreme right position, then move it one detent to the left to the OFF-LOCK position. Install the ignition switch and secure with the retaining screws.

NOTE
The ignition switch must be installed with the switch in the OFF-LOCK position. A new ignition switch will be pinned in the OFF-LOCK position. Remove the plastic pin after the switch is installed on the column. Failure to do so may cause switch damage.

  1. Attach the turn signal switch connector to the column harness and attach the ignition and turn signal switch column harness connectors to the instrument panel harness.
  2. Install the ignition switch wiring protector.
  3. Install the steering column reinforcement plate and secure with the 4 screws.
  4. Install the knee bolster and secure with the 5 screws.
  5. Install the center trim plate and secure with the 2 screws.
  6. Enable the SIR system as follows:
    1. Connect the yellow 2-way connector at the base of the steering column and install the CPA.
    2. Install the left side sound insulator.
Eldorado and Seville-Late Models
  1. Disable the SIR system as follows:
    1. Turn the ignition switch OFF .
    2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    3. On 1991 Eldorado and Seville, remove SIR fuse No. 19 from the fuse panel. On 1992-93 Eldorado and Seville, remove SIR fuse No. A11 from the engine compartment fuse panel.
    4. Remove the left side sound insulator.
    5. Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and detach the yellow 2-way connector at the base of the steering column.
  2. Remove the knee bolster and instrument panel steering column reinforcement plate.

WARNING
The steering column should never be supported by only the lower support bracket alone. Damage to the column lower bearing adapter could result.

  1. Remove the 2 bolts or bolt and nut and the lower support bracket. Remove the 2 bolts and the upper column support from the instrument panel. Lower the steering column and let it rest on the driver seat.
  2. Remove the ignition switch wiring protector and the ignition switch retaining screw and nut.
  3. Detach the ignition and turn signal switch column harness connectors from the instrument panel harness.

  3. Raise the steering column to the support bracket. Install the 2 bolts to the upper support bracket and the bolt and nut or 2 bolts to the lower support bracket. Do not tighten at this time.
  4. Align the steering column to the instrument panel opening. A small shim (wedge) placed between the instrument panel column support bracket and the column can be used to hold the column in place while tightening the support bolts. Tighten the upper and lower column support bolts (and nut, if equipped) to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  5. Install the instrument panel steering column reinforcement plate and knee bolster.
  6. Enable the SIR system as follows:
    1. Connect the yellow 2-way connector at the base of the steering column and install the CPA.
    2. Install the left side sound insulator.

    These details will help.
    Thanks.
