The procedure is as follows:----
CAUTION
Before beginning this procedure, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section. Only a MVAC-trained, EPA-certified, automotive technician should service the A/C system or its components.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Recover the refrigerant.
- Remove the drive belt.
- Disconnect the refrigerant hose assembly from the compressor.
- Cap or plug all of the open connections.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors, as necessary.
- Remove the bolts.
- Remove the compressor from the bracket.
- Drain the compressor oil.
- Measure the compressor oil.
To install:
- Fill the compressor with same amount of PAG oil that was removed.
- Install the compressor to the bracket.
- Install the compressor mounting bolts.
- Tighten the bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
- Connect the electrical connectors, as necessary.
- Install the refrigerant hose assembly to the compressor.
- Install the drive belt.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Charge the system.
- Inspect the system for leaks.
Except 4.3L Engines
CAUTION
Before beginning this procedure, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section. Only a MVAC-trained, EPA-certified, automotive technician should service the A/C system or its components.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Recover the refrigerant.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the air conditioning (A/C) drive belt.
- Remove the steering linkage cover bolts and cover.
- Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly.
- Remove the inner fender skirt.
- Disconnect the compressor/condenser hose.
- Discard the sealing washers. Cap all of the openings.
- Disconnect the electrical connections.
- Reposition the lower EGR pipe connection for clearance.
- Remove the A/C compressor mounting bolts. The lower right bolt will stay with the compressor due to a lack of clearance.
- Remove the A/C compressor from the bracket through the fender well.
- Remove the A/C compressor from the bottom on the RWD 2500 series vehicles only.
- Drain, measure, and dispose of the compressor oil.
To install:
- Fill the compressor with the same amount of PAG oil that was removed.
- Install the A/C compressor to the bracket through the fender well. Insert the mounting bolt into the lower right mounting boss before installing the A/C compressor.
- Install the A/C compressor mounting bolts.
- Tighten the mounting bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
- Reposition the lower EGR pipe connection.
- Connect the electrical connection.
- Install the refrigerant hose to the compressor using new sealing washers.
- Install the inner fender skirt.
- Install the right front tire and wheel assembly.
- Install the steering linkage cover and cover bolts.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the A/C drive belt.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Recharge the A/C system.
- Inspect the system for leaks.
